Toothache Troubles Can Cause Holiday Blues

Posted .

Parties and dinners, cookies and candies, friends and family. The holiday season can be magical–and hectic! It’s pretty easy to let little things slide, including your oral health habits. But for your mouth health, that could mean a toothache. That would throw a wrench in your holiday plans! Let’s take a look at what a toothache could mean, and how to treat it if you get one.

Inside your tooth is an area called pulp, which contains your nerve endings. A toothache usually indicates damage to those nerve endings. This can be a sign of an oral emergency, such as a cavity or an abscess.

Toothaches need to be treated by a dentist. Call Walton Dental Care to treat a toothache as soon as you notice it to prevent further damage. Before you come in, there are some things you can do to try and reduce the discomfort. Cautiously rinse your mouth out with lukewarm water. Then, very gently floss around the tooth in question. All interdental cleaners must be ADA approved, or they could cause greater damage to your teeth. Do NOT use non-ADA-approved materials to clean between teeth! After flossing, call your dentist at Walton Dental Care.
